Computing

Computing at Queen’s Crescent School aims to equip children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. Termly planning is based on the Chris Quigley Essentials Curriculum which aims to provide children with:

• Competence in coding for a variety of practical and inventive purposes, including the application of ideas within other subjects.

• The ability to connect with others safely and respectfully, understanding the need to act within the law and with moral and ethical integrity.

• An understanding of the connected nature of devices.

• The ability to communicate ideas well by using applications and devices throughout the curriculum.

• The ability to collect, organise and manipulate data effectively

Some areas of Computing will be taught in specific lessons but many termly plans will be tailored to topics covered in other curriculum areas.

The school is well equipped with up to date technology and computers.  Computers are available around the school for children to use with supervision.  We have two laptop trolleys and a set of iPads used for computing lessons as well as cross-curricular opportunities within the class.  During lessons, teachers use an interactive whiteboard on a daily basis.  Children also have the opportunity to use a range of other devices including: digital cameras, webcams, BeeBots, recording devices etc.

We use a VLE called LearnAnywhere, which all children have access to.  This is used to share homework activities, access learning resources and provide communication between teachers and children. It is also an effective way to introduce the children to e-safety.
